Any opinions on the price? What would they be asking had this been a righty?

Not that rare and quite overpriced....
On the bay and right handed this would be $1500 tops at the moment...

Someone got ripped off...but if they're happy, that's all that matters!

Righty headstock and inlays, lefty body and dot markers. How common is that? :?:

^assuming it came from the factory that way and not just a poor mash up of parts to foist off on an unsuspecting public...

That's how RIC made lefty 4001's for years. They're not all that rare.

But as I'm sure you all know...Things have a habit of becoming rare, when they're for sale!

I'm not sure when RIC changed over the tooling to make mirror-image lefty basses.

Anything's possible, but I'm 95% sure it came from the factory like that.

That is a standard 1970's left-handed 4001. Nothing more. Nothing less. Yes, that is exactly how they were made back then. Rare? The lefties here can attest that left-handed instruments are quite hard to find. Is it worth $2800 - I don't think so.

Someone seriously overpaid IMO....But, if a buyer is happy, well...

Rare? No....

Go back 10 years from this one, now that's rare...

About a grand too much for a lefty of that vintage.

Shop address is Bleeker Street, NYC. Right in the heart of Greenwich Village. Some of the most expensive real estate in the known universe. Expect to overpay. God forbid someone from Iowa or Kansas or Arizona (etc.; examples) paid for this, thinking it was the only one they could find. And pickup covers aren't that hard to find. Seller could have bought one for $20 right here and bumped the price by another $100.

It's just like the very first 4001 I bought, and still own....even the year.

If you wanted a lefty 4001 in 1979, Uminov has what you got.... Not rare. I would never get rid of mine, but finding another one wouldn't be too hard. And yes I agree it's overpriced....

Now as Andy said, go back ten years...

John, I take it the Wal has taken a back seat guitar stand to this now?

The logo on the TRC looks funny to me... (Im not arguing its a fake, it just does) what looks "fake" is the fact that the neck pu is in 4003 position, unlike leftybass's (nice one!)

Cheers!

Nah, they all get played regularly, but the '69 doesn't go to clubs....
