Radio in the '60's was an integral part of my life. With the rise of FM your time may have been in the '70's or even later. I think it has something to do with just about everyone here.

What was the station that did it for you? KHJ, KLOS, WABC, KFRC, KMPX, KSAN, WNEW and the list goes on.

I spent time listening to WLS, Chicago and KLIF, Dallas.
While hording albums and 45's was just beginning, it was the radio in those early days which brought it all together. WIthout getting maudlin, I can remember those stations well.

I used to walk around feeling smug with one of these tuned to KYA in San Francisco. Often they would play a new Beatles or Stones song and boy would that make my day. I remember the first time I heard every one of them. At night I'd listen undercover with its earphone. Was I cool!!!

I listened to 12AX7 WMMS in the '70s, the rock station that turned me on to bands like Gentle Giant, Steeleye Span, Brian Auger & The Oblivion Express, which BTW, made it big thanks to WMMS.

Kira, I had the same sort of transitor radio. A Zenith I think.

Hmmm, in the 60's I was living in Southern California. I can't say I actually remember the call signs of the various radio stations though. KFI for sure, but I don't think they were rock & roll. The thing I remember most was that when FM was getting going, a lot of stations played music with very few, if any commercials. It was cool to have an FM radio because you could listen to just music without all those ads getting in the way...

Oh, on radios, I remember getting a "Seven Transistor" radio! Wow. it was so cool to be able to carry it around! And no waiting for the tubes to warm up!

WCCC and WHCN. Some cool tunes came out of them in the early 70's.

Growing up in So Cal I listened to KHJ when I was really little, then switched to KMET and KLOS, before punk and new wave hit, at which time I found KROQ.

I grew up in the Pacific Northwest, the state of Oregon to be exact. I listened to KINK out of Portland. It was weak enough, that I could barely get it on a portable transistor radio in our little town about 90 miles south. So when my parents were out for the evening, I'd tune in on the big stereo console rig that sat in the living room and listen to the likes of Poco, Buffalo Springfield, Jethro Tull, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Santana, CSN, It's A Beautiful Day, Pentangle, The Byrds,...and the list goes on.

One of the greatest things KINK had going (besides the goofy call letters [and I'm surprised to this day that the FCC let them get away with that]) was on Friday night, starting about 11:00 they'd broadcast The Album Preview of the Week. I remember staying up and listening to Abbey Road all the way through as soon as it came out in the US. I also remember listening to Deja Vu, and then Let It Be all the way through one Friday night, too. Ah! great times. And it was while listening to KINK that I learned of the break up of the Beatles, the deaths of Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and Jim Morrison. 1970 was a tough year.

In the 60's I was involved with (on a professional level) and I listened to a couple of local Vancouver B.C. radio stations, C-FUN and (Boss Radio) CKLG. The area had some Canadian music industry giants for DJ's.

On C-FUN there was Red Robinson, Roy Henessy and Fred Latrimouille. Roy moved to CKLG to eventually become the morning man and he convinced his boss Don Hamilton to adopt the Boss Radio format bringing in Daryl B (Burlingham), Stevie Wonder (Grossman), Terry David Mulligan, Tim Burge, Long John Tanner and "Captain Midnight" (JB Shayne) who moved to FM when it started up. Roy and Daryl convinced Don Hamilton (the station General Manager)to sign my band with the station to support their DJ's on live appearances and they agreed to reciprocate by supporting us and appearing at all of our local gigs.

It was a marriage made in heaven for my band. We got loads of airplay and loads of exposure. That exposure eventually netted us a record contract thanks to Daryl............but that's a whole other story Stan.

I knew a lot more radio personalties in the 60's most of them from other radio stations but these are the ones that come to mind immediately. I hope I have not bored you all to death.

The three main stations that I listened to growing up were:
KRIO in McAllen, TX
KTSA, San Antonio, TX
WLS, Chicago, IL

Jim, an FM station I worked for had a similar program. Once a week we tracked a new LP all the way through. One, we failed to preview first (ahem), was Nilsson's, Son of Schmilsson. Everything was fine until it got to the song, You're Breakin' My Heart, with the lyrics, You're breakin' my heart, you're tearin' me apart, so (blank) you. I almost lost my job over that one.
