1978 4001 refret

Hi all

this may seem a silly question but here goes.

I have just got my bass back from my guitar tech and he has advised me that my bass would really benefit from a refret.

My question is this, at the moment the outer edges of the frets are the same colour as the finish (white) .

After the refret i understand that the outer edges will no longer be this colour but will i lose any of the binding?

does anyone have a pic of a refretted rick I can have a look at.....

Sorry for the silly question, but i want to know what i am letting my self in for as i really love my ric.

Many thanks in advance

Tony

It is probably a white 4001. The white you see at the ends of the frets is actually binding. Rickenbacker shapes the binding to cover the fret ends. A good fret man will know how to cut the new wire to fit WITHOUT wreaking the binding .

And a really good "fret man" will know how to properly rebind it to fit the new frets. :D
