As said before, I've never been a big fan of FG, and that is not to slam RIC's work, or anybody else's opinions.
Red and most of its variants are just not generally appealing to me. So most of the time I'd choose a MG Ric bass.
But then I saw this '09 and my heart was changed. How could I not love this?

That is about as good as I have ever seen. Yes, Clownglo is officially dead.

There have been several variations of the Fireglo finish. I've thought that some were stunning and I've not cared much for others. I do not like the ones that have a pink color in the center of the body and or the ones that are just dark around the edges of the body and do not make a gradual fade towards the center. Clownglo, I guess.

Mike, yours is an outstanding version of Fireglo, which seems to be how all the new ones are turning out. Eric at RIC is doing a great job!

It seems to me there was a thread a while back where JH said they were using a new method for doing bursts that would make them more consistent. Perhaps a machine method? Does anybody else remember that?

All of the FG I've seen since 08 have been the best ever. Just enough touch of yellow and no pink. Excellent, Ric.

The ones with the smooth colour transitions are the best imho.

Thanks guys. I was lucky to snag it from NCM, which was a weird thing by itself - as I really did not set out to buy a new bass that day. Even if I had been thinking of buying, I wouldn't have thought about a FG.
I was browsing the NCM site, got a price quote on one of two in stock new 4003FG -just out of curiosity, and couldn't pass up the deal he offered. Five days later it was in my grubby paws.
KILLER deal...less than some guys are getting for 1-3 year old basses on ebay.
I still look at this beautiful brand new 4003 and scratch my head...it's not a second or a return or scratch & dent. Guess once in a great while, I just get lucky.

Great looking bass, Mike! Everyone has to have at least one FG in their collection. Surprisingly to me, I now have four FG instruments, two basses and two guitars.

That's what led me to acquire my FG 4003 (08)...the finish was the clincher. <sob sob> I only have two...the 4003 and a 330...maybe another on the way soon though...hmmm....

I too have generally been indifferent to FG, but what the factory has been producing lately is just amazing. So much so that FG is now my hands-down favorite!
