360/12 truss rod cover question

I just bought a 360/12 that bears a year 2000 serial number. It appears to be a garden variety Fireglo 360/12 with highgains (a nice garden indeed!) except for the truss rod cover, which is the vintage style - without raised letters. Any thoughts on why this would be?

The previous owner most likely swapped TRCs. Check for a second hole near the point under the TRC.
