Fake Carcass?

Just out of curiosity (trying to sharpen my eye), this is a fake, right?

http://cgi.ebay.com/VINTAGE-1981-RICKEN ... 7C294%3A50

the routing for the neckpup wires doesn't seem to be the typical series of holes, where the neck ends at the body looks strange... The horn at the headstock looks funny and the fretboard in general too...

Am I wrong?

Thanks

jc

Looks real enough to me.

Additionally, why would they put real TRC and s/n jack plate on it if it were a fake?

i did actually see a set-neck matsumoto on the 'bay a few monthes ago,but i wouldn't be able to tell if this was one of those or an actual rick....seeing that neck join carved out for the 2nd pickup gives me the willies, tho! :| and also, putting on a real jack and trc is how people try to pass off nonrick bodies as the real thing.....

Is the thickness of the stripe all right? That's sometimes a giveaway.

Thanks for the replies, lets see what others got to say about it...

Just for fun's sake, look at this "All Original" jetglo:

http://cgi.ebay.com/1981-Rickenbacker-M ... 7C294%3A50

BTW, prices are going down quite considerably, don't you think? a couple of months ago, when I bought my 03FG I payed over 1800 cause it was the lowest price for something decent (and mine is MINT, not just decent) but I mean, the cheaper ones were in ruins (and definitely nothing under 1200), and now I see many that I would've considered ok to buy for sth between 1200/1500 ... Maybe I should've waited :s

I love mine though, not complaining at all!

Cheers!

To me, the TRC looks fake and the pickguard doesn't look like something that came from RIC. As for the body, it could very well be a set neck 4001S. I'm not sure about the width of the stripe though...

I believe it is a real one that was modified some time back. The pickguard is not original (obvious), but the TRC might be a worn real one or a poorly repainted one. The shedua strip looks right to me.

If this bass was finished in 1981 it could have the 4003 routing. The truss rod channels look correct. To me it looks like the real thing. I'd have it!

That is a very real set-neck 4000 / 4001S.

That gold TRC, if original, was worth the opening bid!

The TRC looks like it extends beyond the headstock. Does not appear original to the bass from my point of view, and may have been added to match the non-original pickguard.

When did the wiring channel go from drilled holes to the neatly routed channel such as this one?

My '86 4003 channels look that way.

Late issue 4001.
