Yes Virginia,Fender Did make a Coral Pink Stratocaster!

Post by octagon »

In the latest issue of Premier Guitar Magazine is an article about a 1961 Fender Stratocaster in Tahitian Coral Wow,this is a big deal. For years experts have said that this color did not exist.According to Vintage Guitar Info Guy "Fender never had a color in its pallet called Coral Pink or Salmon Pink. This color is mostly likely Fiesta Red, which has a very pink hue." Wrong! This is like finding the Holy Grail of Fender Telecasters.

Cool colour....My 64 Jazz may end up something close to this, unless I go down the sonic blue path...

Very interesting. I owned an early Jazzmaster in exactly this shade, painted over a sunburst. When I put it up for sale in '97, I got lots of interest. The three guys who came to the house wanted me to pull the neck, but I resisted. It eventually went, sight unseen, to a buyer in Switzerland in 2001.

I knew it was original, but did not know how rare this color is.

Why wouldn't you pull the neck, Paul? Isn't that standard protocol when selling vintage Fenders?

I don't have the guitar, but I have one of those Blonde/Brown Face Fender Twins; mine's a `63.

I had a 1987 Strat Plus that was Coral Pink. Of course whenever anyone would call it pink, I would scream, "IT'S NOT PINK, ITS SALMON!"

At the time ('97) I was not too informed about this...until 2004, when I got my first Rick, I was a bit gun-shy about even changing strings. At the time back then, I was worried that something would happen that would screw with the setup. If I'd've known anything about Fender Custom Colors, I would have prolly kept the geetar...

At the time I owned the guitar, I matched the color to a DuPont chip. It was a '55 Chevrolet color called, simply, "Coral".

Mike Oldfield played a pink 61 Stratocaster for many years. It has since been sold to a fan.
