Question for Kenny Howes re Smithereens

Hey Kenny ---- now I now you don''t believe in the philosophy of practicing before jams, :) :o so don't get ticked.... :x

But a few of us were interested in trying some Smithereens tunes at the upcoming Mini-Con Jam and knowing that you are a big Smithereen's fan, we have questions as to the preferred keys to play "Blood and Roses" and "Behind the Wall fo Sleep".

Sounds like the Smithereens have their guitars tuned down to Eb on the recordings, but the internet Tab/Chords we've picked up show Blood and Roses in natural Em and G .... Do you play it in regular concert tuning first postion chords like Em instead of tuning down to Ebm ?

Same question with Behind the Wall of Sleep... the internet Tab/Chord posters have a couple of different versions (gee, that's a surprise) with D#m as the tuned down positon (I'm assuming) from a natural Em. Are you playing Wall of Sleep starting in a natural Em ?

Thanks for your assistance ... better for us to get the proper chord sequences down ahead of time...
Cheers
Rich

Rich, while you're at it dissecting those tabs, the first line in BTWOS should read,

"She had hair like Jeannie Shrimpton back in 1965."

My tab says, "Shipton".

Who the hell is "Jeannie Shipton"?, I wondered...

...whereas Jean Shrimpton was a top model that year.

You're right -- she's a super-model

You are correct - the Smithereens tune their guitars down a half step, and play both of those songs in Em.

Awesome video !!!

It doesn't get much better than that -- two Rick guitars and a Rick bass !!! :D :D

Thanks for posting..... great inspiration for our upcoming Mini-Con jam.

Always one of my favorites. Makes me wish I was coming to the mini-con just to jam to that one.

Nice idea, but they don't even go to Montana (heck, the nearest airport to me with commercial service is over 200 miles away, nobody comes near here  ). Actually, the big kicker right now is that it's the beginning of farming season. I've got to get another 450 acres planted and going so I won't have time for much in the next 4 months...
