I miss my 4001 already

I just sold off my 1980 Azureglo 4001 this past weekend, and I'm missing it already.

No, I'm not missing that specific bass - it was kind of rough and probably couldn't handle my preferred Fender 9050M flats without risking the neck - but I miss having that wonderful Ric tone in the arsenal.

I may need to sell off some more stuff and buy a newer one with the beefier neck.

Does it ever end?

I got my first RIC in December 1980 (new) and kept it for about 17 or 18 years. Having taken up upright bass in '92, I found the RIC gathering dust. I wish now that I had kept it, but I sold it for a keyboard and amp back in about '97 or '98. Not sure why, but the bug bit me again about 10 years later, and I now have a 4003FL and a DCM 4003.

No, it never ends, although it may hibernate for a bit.

Note to self: Never, under any circumstances whatsoever, sell your Rick.

I learned that the hard way. I sold all of my gear including a MG 4001 to buy a Harley.

Being young and/or dumb created two problems because I ended up selling my H-D (I got a Triumph chopper at the time) and my bass and was left with a whole lot of nothing. :(

That's called a 'Rickie Lee Jones'.

Actually, I'm OK with the 4001 - it funded a new 660/12. I'm missing the *tone*, which a nice new 4003 should fix!

I'm one of those oddballs that generally prefers new over vintage.

Unless you're trading it up!
