What type of glue should I use?

Paul, I have a case from the late 70's that I pulled the two foam ends off that had been soaked in Coke. I pulled off the blue covering and fully cleaned them along with the yellow foam. What is a good glue to reattach the lining to the foam, and than the two pieces back into the case?

We use Dan Tack , Foam & Fabric spray glue for our interiors.

I use a hot glue gun (nothing fancy, craft-store style) for all my vintage case interior foam/fabric/ etc. restoration projects. It's semi-permanent (can be undone if necessary) with no toxic effects.

Both are good ideas; I lean toward a high-tack, high-temp spray contact cement for foam and fabric.

If Dan-Tack is not available in Chicago, David, I'd use 3M High-Strength 90, available is spray cans at about $16.00/can at many fabric stores.

From Bob's and my experience, 3M brand spray adhesives are a bit liquid. They have a tendency to soak through the fabric if it's thin, and make the other side stiff or attract dirt that can't be easily washed off. A-1 is another good brand to check out. They have a chain of fabric shops here in California.

The main thing you want to check out is that after you spray it, the glue remains white in colour and forms bubbles (instead of soaking into the fabric, if you know what I mean).

3M must be sprayed from a distance of a foot or more; resist the temptation to soak the material. The 90 comes with a nozzle that makes the spray come out in a spiral, mimicking the pattern of a pressure-pot spray gun. Maybe Dan-Tack has a similar nozzle.

I'm a fan of the stuff sold by A-1 on Main in Santa Ana (They're a chain? Soon in SF, I hope! )--they have a high-temp spray glue that is favored by every auto upholsterer in Orange county. When I'm down for a visit, I often stop in for a couple of cans--I use it for Tolexing. And, the A-1 stuff is cheap, too.

Yep, it's good stuff (Dan-Tack is still better though, IMO). I have always thought A-1 was a chain, though come to think of it....I've always seen and been to the one on Main st. SA, so maybe it isn't a chain....? If you ever need some of that stuff shipped up, Paul----just lemme know.
