When i recently refurbished I checked all the grounds (including the bridge) . I still get a noticable hum when not holding the strings...
LTLWI (Learn To Live With It) or is there some fix? Do i just need to open 'er up again?
Thanks!

Are you using a compressor? That will add noise. Turn off the compressor when you're not playing to minimize the noise.
Are you near a CRT computer monitor or flourescent lights? They'll add noise.
Is the wiring where you're playing suspect? That will add noise too.
You're going to have some noise with single coil pickups no matter what you do. Nature of the beast.

if your amp has a ground switch try flipping that.... if not then don't take your hands off the strings! I mean like it's not as if you are not playing it?!???!

This is very often a problem with the jack. Make sure it is clean and not bent.

Thanks for the replies.
I think it was a system configuration problem. I especially liked the switch the ground on the amp - because i don't have the problem at home.
Different configuration sounded much better. And i am spoiled by the work-truck (Peavey G-Bass w/ 18V active pickups/very quiet

)
Anyhoo - many compliments on the kool/old skool rig!
