Hey Phlemmy and all o' you headbangers...have you heard these guys? (And for everyone else, this stuff is not appropriate for anyone with a heart condition...)

My young balinese drummer friend turned me on to this outrageous Canadian band...it's good to hang out with 18-year-olds if you want to keep up with what's going on out there in the big ol' world. The kids are referring to this genre as 'mathcore', mostly because of the insane changes in time signature and tempo, I think. It certainly won't appeal to everyone (almost nothing does), and it's just a little bit over the top for me to get all the way into it, but these guys are amazing players...and the devoted metal heads among us should enjoy them. The drummer, in particular, blows my mind...just my opinion, now, but I think he mops the floor with N. Peart, and he's doing it on 1/10th of the drums...basically little more than a 'cocktail' kit with a double kick pedal. Monstrous...

(Now all you old p**ps my age, please don't jump all over this and say you find it unlistenable and that you'd rather hear Clapton noodling away at a blues scale or riffle through your Beatles' bubble gum trading cards for the thousandth time...if that's the case, it goes without saying, and what are you doing reading posts in the metal forum, anyway...) Here goes:

Not my cuppa, but very creative and fresh use of technique I thought was cliche. Very musical and well rooted in the finest tradition of Prog. I can definitely hang.

Yeah, they're all really top players.

Never heard of 'em and the clips are interesting. A little different from what I normally listen to but certainly something I'll check into a little more and see if I like other tracks.

i like it. and it seemingly has decent vocals. most of this math rock stuff has ****** singers.

but in general, all these bands are just ripping off buzzard and watchtower.

there's also a little bit of HOT TOPIC metalcore mixed in which i can do without...but they are certainly listenable.
