Proper stringing of a twelve string guitar

I have a 360/12CW and want to know the correct way to string it. I have been told that the normal six strings go to the side tuners and the octave strings go to the back tuners. However, my guitar is NOT strung that way. Also, would it be wise to switch out the "R" tailpiece for a trapeze? Thanks

The correct stringing is the way you received it from the factory, assuming the dealer did not make changes. For the first three sets of strings, from low E through D, the main strings go to the "side" tuners and the harmonic strings to the "back" tuners. This arrangement will be exactly the opposite as you string G through E pairs with the main strings going to the "back" tuners and the harmonic strings to the "side" tuners. The "R" tailpiece will work fine. Consult the Ask A Rickenbacker Luthier topic for tips on strings and tailpieces. I won't claim that this stringing technique is universally used, however, it works for most folks I know.
