Sadly Bob Bogle one of the founder members of The Ventures along with Don Wilson, passed away yesterday he was 75.
Bob originally played lead, he was lead on arguably their biggest hit Walk Don't Run.
He switched to Bass when Nokie Edwards and later Jerry McGhee became lead guitar.
Here is a recent performance and again Bob is playing lead.

I was pretty stunned to hear this news yesterday and could only post my immediate reaction.
Bob Bogle, Don Wilson and Nokie Edwards are my guitar heroes, and were my inspiration for learning the instrument. It is an extra sad day when you lose a lifetime hero. I spun up my copies of Mashed Potatoes, Outer Limits, Supergroup, Meet the Ventures and Hawaii 5-0 on the turntable (yup, still have one of those) last night and listened. RIP Bob. My condolences to the Ventures family.
Great clips to post George. Thanks.

Dang, there goes another one. I guess it's a sign of getting old, all of your heroes start passing on.
They had a lot of great music and Bob will be missed. My condolences to the rest of the band and his family...

Wow, three really nice covers. It's hard to say which one I like best but I think it's Chet

When I first started playing guitar in 1966 I tried to learn as many of their songs as possible. I can still play most of the ones I learned even though I've been primarily a bass player since about 1967. Two of my favorite songs they did besides the obvious are Perfidia and Slaughter on Tenth Avenue.

The clip of the Ventures doing Walk Don't Run is interesting as it features the orignal drummer Howeie Johnson. Mel Taylor took over from him very soon after and of course Leon Taylor became the drummer when his father passed away.
