This question in a sense may have been repeated on here alot but I just really need some info. I'm lookin for the sound of Cliff Burtons Rickenbacker from metallica. Not the Modified version where he through in a EB0 pickup and Jazz pickup, but before that. In this solo here:

Ya he uses wah and distortion I get it but I'm wondering if anyone knows the specs on it. Like what year it was or anything special. I know its a 4001 and probably in the 70's, but is their a difference in pickups or sound form the 70's 4001's and the 80's 4001's? I noticed that alot of 4001 have a couple of different type of brid ge pickups. COuld anyone help me out with acquiring this sound? I have heard that 4001's sound way better than 400's and I'm lookin for that deep trebly growl.

He used a Rickenbacker 4001, Morley Power Wah Boost with a Boss compressor and Ibanez Tube Screamer.

He also had a hidden stratocaster pick up fitted underneath the chrome bridge where the foam mute would be. It was activated by a push/pull on one of the knobs when he was playing solos. This modification was done by his tech long before he had the original pick ups swapped during the recording of Kill 'em all and probably before he joined Metallica.

wow what A typo, I knew it was 4001 but i through 4002 instead haha, ya I heard bout that strat pickup thing, so that means he had 3 pickups in his bass? I read that to live is to die book as well so I heard that. Does anyone know what year it is or what kinda pickup he through in. Was that main reason for his crazy sounding throating distortion? Also I thought He used a Electro Harmonix Big Muff? Also some weird delay stuff too sometiems and every once in a while Bass Balls
