Here's a simple question for the Curmudge

What type of guitar hangers did you use in the slatwall of guitars in your avatar?

I've always hung them up straight against the wall, but I'd like to consolidate space and hang them guitar shop style, at an angle....any suggestions?

I've used a number of different brands. The ones that the majority of my guitars are hung from are super-heavy-duty ones with gum rubber tubing, that I bought in bulk (80) from a guitar store than went out of business. They are chromed and must be 15-20 years old.

I've also got some Hamiltons for the lighter-weight instruments.

These Quik-Locks are what I'd recommend, though, if I was buying new:

I should add that slatwall is tougher to mount than it looks, and quite susceptible to damage if dropped. It must be mounted to studs with lots of fasteners. A standard flatwall panel weighs just shy of 80 pounds and requires two men or one guy with a jack to mount. My music room only took four panels, but mounting, shimming, aligning, trimming, and finishing them took the better part of a weekend for two guys.

The Quick-lock variety look perfect- sturdy and moveable (side-to-side). I had seen the hamilton's in my searching, but not the Quick-lock style. Cheers.

I've been checking how to put guitars on my wall. The only place I could put them in the apartment's an inside wall that's some kind of soft stone. It won't support big weights, so those store-like systems can't be used. However, I'm not against a bunch of seperate guitar hangers, which the wall will be able to support.

I've been reading good things about these:

QuikLok Wall-Mount
String Swing Guitar hanger
Hercules GSP38WB Guitar Hanger

They're all about the same price.
I don't like the Hercules from the looks, but it's the one Mr. Hall recommended at the other forum.
Is it easy to use? It looks like it could be difficult to remove the guitar from the wall with the weird little grabber arms.
The QuikLok is even worse in looks, so it's at the bottom of my list.

I like the String Swing most because of the rubberfoam colours & wood - we use them at work in the office (which doesn't mean they might be the best, though).
Is the rubberfoam on the String Swing one non-aggressive?

Well, Werner, even though I've stopped loving you ,

The Hercs are great and no problem to remove instruments from. Pricey, though, if you're buying a lot.

I have both QuikLok and String Swings in my house. Both are finish-friendly.

Soft stone, hey? Sounds tough. These are all set up to be mounted on gypsum wallboard or into stud-type construction.

From when they were constructing the building I know the inside walls are some sort of salmon pinkish stones. Not natural - there's plaster on it, it's cracked already, plus they're not that thick. Drilling a hole through it is easier done than said!

I'll go with Mr. Hall & Paul's advice and get meself a test Hercules - I'll hang something on it and see if anything happens. I sure hope I won't do like the neighbour and actually drill a hole right through the wall, though.

I am using the Hercules hangers, and as Paul says, they are easy to use (and are secure).

Paul, you mean you don't recommend the two nails that the previous owner of my 4001V63 used?

You say that like its a bad thing.

I've just purchased and installed 2 x Hercules GSP38WB. While the mechanism looks a little clunky in pics on websites (and i suppose it is), in practice it works real smooth and i feel happy that my guitars are protected from falling off with the little swinging arms. For piece of mind, i put a third screw in between the bracket and the existing top screwhole. The basic design looked to me as though all of the force was on the top screw, pulling it out of the wall.

I've also purchase 2 x GSP39WP for installation on standard 10mm Gyproc. I felt the 3 screws with this model gave more options for spreading the weight across the plasterboard.

When installing them I feared the two screw Hercules system would come right out again. I injected the holes in the wall which is quite soft with liquid cement, then put the plugs into those. Wait a bit, and screw the hangers on. No problem whatsoever!
