I did that to Tim's Pop Burst 335 and also on a number of other B5s, including a couple for Kevin Kuney.

That was a great idea of yours, Paul. It made it look so streamlined. I wonder why Bigsby never modified their design like that?

I didn't play that 330 Popsickle that much (even though it played like butter) but I sure liked looking at it so it was out of the case and on a stand here a lot of the time. I think I was afraid I'd scratch something up. That Bigsby was fun. I tried playing "Satisfy Susie" like Lonnie Mack with it. (Lonnie's job is safe.)

Yes, Paul had fun with that one. Really made that 330 special with that color and modded Bigsby.

FYI on that case issue... it is a common mistake to turn a Bigsby arm in the opposite direction for case storage. This is bad because when the case closes, the arm pulls up on the strings, increasing storage tension. It is best (to the best of my knowledge) to leave the Bigsby arm in the regular position, pointing towards the headstock, so that when the top of the case closes on it, it will slightly lower storage tension.

If I'm wrong, please let me know. But, I have it on pretty good authority that this is a common misconception.

Oops. I've been doing this with my Gretsches ever since I've first owned one. I haven't had any problems, but perhaps it's different with a Gretsch due to the shape of the case...then again, I might hear the sound of five Gretsch necks and one Telecaster neck snapping off any second.

Not so fast...Let common sense be your guide here...On most of my Gretsches, swivelling the arm to an approximate 5:00 position moves the tip of the arm in a downward arc, so that the highest portion of the Bigsby that the case lid contacts when closed is actually the swivel bolt head (or the "pivot point". So, the lid doesn't actually bear down on the arm, but on the immovable pivot point.

Same thing with my Accents.

It's all in where you place the arm.

Ah, now that makes sense...I really must avoid posting before I've had at least one monster cuppa joe in the morning.

Thanks for the clarification, Paul. I was worried I might not have my facts straight. My experience is mainly based on a '96 Epi Casino, which has a slightly different kind of case. We need Rick Mythbusters!

Ironically, Adam Savage was one of the instructors in my department back in the early years of this century, before he became rich and stopped shaving. I still see him on Polk Street once in awhile.

Next time you see him, could you thank him for me? Thank him for making science cool again. I'm a chemistry student, and it's cool now that young kids actually ask me about mythbusters type stuff rather than just not caring!

Seconded (I refrain from the "+1" thing)

Adam and the gang do some really whacky and cool things - and weave a little science lesson in here and there. Kari is pretty easy on the eyes too!

Even when pregnant she's gorgeous!

But I'm sure they hear that often, so just the science thing will be good!
