OK... Two sets of questions.

First Set... Do guitars really "break in" and are there "good ones" off the line... Or, is it simply that we all form a certain affection for our favorites? I saved all my coin and bought a 360 JetGlo in 1990. In fact, I had to sneak up to Atlanta from Savannah with my girlfriend, now wife (where I was living at the time) because my dad didn't want me to buy it. It's torn and tattered but, to me at least, it plays better than any other Rick I've got. Kenny Howes has borrowed it and likes it, but he likes everything Rick! Part of me thinks it is "broken in" or a "good one" or set up to my liking, but then again, maybe I am just partial for sentimental reasons. With modern tolerances and manufacturing technique, it seems more likely the latter... Can I get some feedback on this one?

Second Set... Do I have the gumby headstock cutdown to the slimline and get full width inlays, or leave it and get a new one? Anyone currently employed by Rick is disqualified from responding to this question, and any response from a Rick luthier will be strictly construed! Kidding, but in all seriousness... This guitar is not that valuable, but it is my favorite. Do I try to replace it for aesthetics or simply make it my own with modifications? I just got a decent verdict in a personal injury lawsuit and have some money to spend... Toughie...

Two very, very good topics.

First, It's my experience that guitars do change, do get better with age, although some as well are just "born" outstanding.

Second, if you subjectively love your '90 and feel that it augments your playing more than other examples, then that's a very difficult thing to replace, and any any mod you make that causes you to love it and play it more is money well spent, IMO.

Rock on in style, I say!
