I always have to assume that if the "original truss rod cover is replaced" and that the "original input jacks replaced with identical, just missing the SN"...that it can't possibly be a real RIC instrument- isn't that a fair assumption?

Looks like a b-series guitar to me... Not a real Lennon re-issue model though. The case looks real enough.

$40 for a TRC? I'd be willing to buy them for that!

I had the same thought - this looks pretty fishy - when I saw the listing on the San Francisco Craigslist, too. Still, it's better than the CL ad "selling" a Gibson Les Paul for $350 if you show up with cash at a specified address at a certain time. THAT seller didn't even bother with having an actual guitar to sell, which certainly lowers the overhead.

Nothing funky. Looks legit to me.

Well, it's explained pretty well by the statement "This guitar had no parts when I got it." So, what else could he do but replace them? Not too many years ago, TRCs weren't nearly as expensive as today, you could even buy them direct from RIC. Apparently he hasn't priced them recently.

I'm not sure about jack plates without serial numbers though. I know that RIC used to sell replacements with X's for serial numbers but I don't think they sold blank ones. It is possible the seller means it doesn't have a "real" serial number, just X's, or maybe it's some after market plate (or off a faker), hard to tell without a picture.

Or he just has a $3 blank jack plate from Allparts. They are a direct drop-in fit.
