I'm currently shopping for a recording studio in NYC.

My guitarist can engineer, and we have a producer. Plan is to record basic tracks in studio, then record overdubs and mix in producer's home Pro-tools studio

Seems like I am finding these expensive "pro" studios from $500-$1000 bux a day sans engineer, or "home" studios which are very inexpensive, but are bound to have issues.

Anyone record recently? Aware of the costs involved?Advice?

I wouldn't have any problems with a home studio utilizing Pro-tools. The band I play in just finished up a CD in just such a studio. Next step is the mastering session.

Jim, I think the problem we'd have using a "home studio" for the basic tracks is sound bleeding from noisy NYC apts. It'd probably take a lot of searching to find such a place capable of recording the live band, drums and all.

Crossing my fingers but, I may have found a place that has a client list in the same genre of the sound we are trying to produce, and price wise may not be too much more than the home studio. Especially considering we're only doing the basics there.

If that is so, then you aren't playing loud enough.
