What's the history behind the "lawsuit" quote?

I'm sure RIC won...right?

That bolt plate looks so tragic on what are otherwise very sexy lines on an instrument.

Yup. Flagged. Both.
The Ibanez has the nicest wood of all the copies.

He's using "Lawsuit" to define an era in the 70's where copies were made in mass of the major brands.

Ah, so all the manufacturers were up against the same thing, not just RIC? I'm assuming they have all since obtained copyright/trademarks up the mono jack since then?

Nope! In fact, just a few months ago, Fender tried to claim copyright/trademark status for a number of their designs but since they had allowed copies from so many for so long, the designs were deemed to be in the public domain. That's why RIC goes after copies so aggressively, if they didn't, they'd lose the rights all together...

Ah, that makes sense. Fender established a precident for consistent copyright infringement...RIC didn't.

Heres a Kimbara faker from a review in International Musician 1978.
Says its a "pre production sample".
I remember seeing a Jazz bass of theirs but not the Rickenfaker.
Its almost unthinkable now that anyone would attempt such a hardfaced rip off.
The hard work Rickenbacker put into protecting their copyright seems to have paid off.
