For all you 80s/90s Alt. Rock fans out there---here's Lou Barlow (later of Sebadoh) playing a 4003 with Dinosaur Jr back in the day...

(apologies for picking videos with bad quality! )

...and live :

Good call!

I'm a total Dino freak - managed to get tickets at the weekend to see them next month in Brighton (UK).

Lou had the FG Ric until a couple of years back, when it was stolen, and never returned. There were details all over the Dino forum about it (there was other gear stolen as well). From memory, it was a '73 4001.

Recently, he's been using a '51 Precision, and a Mike Dirnt signature bass.

TBH, Lou gets a great sound whatever he's using! :D :D

Totally awesome band, great musicians as well.

Cool! :)

I'm bummed---I usually catch them when they make it out to the west coast here, but I found out a few days ago that they JUST played a gig in Costa Mesa a short drive away, in a small bar etc....would have been super cool to see them in a small venue.

The thing I like best about Dinosaur Jr. is how in the middle of the "alternative rock" period, when everybody else was championing the punk ethic of "no guitar solos, anti-skill etc" J Mascis was a bona fide guitar hero. Anybody that thinks that Alt. Rock didn't produce any guitar skills needs to see Dinosaur Jr. live......and bring some earplugs.
