It looks REALLY mint, did the 1979 cabinets have a towel bar?
If I am not mistaken, the seller dated the amp using the speaker code, so 67=eminence and then 79 is the year, does it seem reasonable?

The seller agreed for a freight shipment, how much should I add him for crating or boxing the cabinet?

It looks like the Ampeg A is plastic, so probably the late 70s. I'm not sure when the cabinet design changed from the earlier box design to the towel-bar design.

All I could say is that it is a late 70's cab and if it has 79 on the speakers it is probably a 79 as that is the way you date those things. That one looks like new, that is a high price though but in that shape it's probably worth it. I see only one potential problem with this and that is if you start moving it around it won't be so pristine looking after a while unless you are very careful. That being said I believe those are one half of the best sounding bass rigs ever made and I would snap it up. (Now you didn't expect me to say anything different did you?)
I have two old square backs and one that's shaped like that but I've never dated them. I will say that all of them have the original speakers in them, all are over 30 years old with the square backs being close to 35 and all still sound great. They all look like they were dragged behind a truck too.

Please explain why would anyone want an old speaker cabinet? Bass speaker/cab technology has made giant steps in the last decade, they are now smaller, lighter and significantly louder without farting out at living-room levels, why not get something more modern? You can hook it up to your favorite vintage tube amp if you want. Is there something here I don't get? Please enlighten me.

It may be a similar thing to those of us who prefer vintage instruments to new ones.

I agree. The new ampeg 4/10 cabs rock and never bottom out. Or Fart as you put it. Now the older SVT heads, I love. I had a 69 blue line. Nothing ever sounded better. Was just too damn heavy.

An SVT is not just a "favorite" vintage amp or cab Ilan, it is in a league of it's own, they're are stilll viable and will still blow away most amps made today which is why they are still sought after and still cost more than many new amps. I regularly use one cab withit's mate tube 300 watt head and it never breaks up, it gets too loud. They are sealed which gives them much greater power handling capacity and 8 10"s have the cone area of almost 4 15"s and tube amps are a lot thicker and louder watt for watt in general then SS amps and 6550 tubes are very difficult to break up in general anyway. Any Ampeg SVT cab that farts at living room levels in a hurting puppy and should be serviced before being used. These were known as the only amps that could compete with 100 watt Marshall guitar stacks back in the loud days, the benefit from that is that they can play very loudly and clearly with ease and still sound great and still blow away many modern amps today, kind of like a vintage 427 Corvette. I've used them on some pretty big stages in my life time and I can attest that they have THE REP for a reason. They are also very reliable with minimum upkeep. I bought one in Lima, Peru, I assume they must be available in Israel? It sounds like you've never tried one although with your amount of playing time I find that hard to believe. If you haven't tried one I would suggest you do, you might like them. SVT's ushered in a new age and are still being copied today by just about every manufacturer. The very early SVT cabs with Alnico magnets don't quite keep up with the later ceramic magnet cabs, but they only made those for a year or two if that's what you're thinking of.

The early matching blue line cabs of which I had one (blue line set up) had alnico magnets I believe and didn't have quite the same amount of power handling as the later ceramic magnet cabs, the early blue line cabs are pretty rare and just about all SVT cabs you see today have ceramic magnets including the one in the ebay ad, these are virtually impossible to bottom out and will kill just about any 4 x 10 I've ever used, 4 x 10's sound good don't get me wrong but they sound "small" compared to an SVT 8 x 10. An Ampeg 8 x 10 will easily fill a room with deep bass without being pushed especially if it is mated with an SVT head. Watch out bobampeg is alive and well! Jeffrey remembers well,

Hey guys, seller agrees to ship it himself, basically he says that he wants $1400 for the cabinet crated and shipped to Milford, MI (from Oregon).
Apparently he has a matching head for this cab!!! it's a 1972 head, I am still waiting for some answers regarding the health of the head to see if I can get a good deal on both of them together...
Bob: there is only 1 store that sells them and they sell only the RI ones...
AFAIK there is not even a single vintage SVT in Israel.
