rickenbacker strap + schaller strap locks

hi,
i recently got a rickenbacker vintage style strap (with those skinny ends), and after struggling for a while, i managed to get the schaller strap locks onto them. but now that i look at it, it seems kinda forced

it seems as though the strap locks were too big for the little holes on the strap ends, and i'd imagine that the strap ends *could* rip eventually?
my question is...with the weight of the 4003, is this safe at all? will the ends rip? is anyone here using rickenbacker vintage strap + schaller strap locks on a 4003?

I used to have one of those! As cool as it was though that thing made my shoulder hurt something fierce. Its pretty thick leather so it should hold up just fine.

I like my Ric vintage strap- however, it did once become unstrapped and caused the bass to fall to the ground and did some damage years ago...Haven't had it fall like that since.
But, if you really want a cool strap, get this:

I've got schaller strap locks on mine but just a normal strap. I'm using the stock strap bolts on the Ric end and the locks on the strap ened.
I've thought of getting new strap bolts and machining/cutting divets into them so they lock correctly. Currently, they just slide into place without locking.
I can't justify ordering from the Boutique for just 2 strap bolts, though.

I've found that you almost always need to trim leather to get the Schaller strap ends to fit correctly.

Dirt cheap; better than any other strap lock system out there. Just takes a few extra seconds of your time:

No affiliation here; just a firm recommendation. I have a set for four of my six basses; all for less than $10. My other two basses have straplock pegs (actually, you can use the Lokstraps with straplock pegs), but I don't like them as much. Yes, the pegs are more convenient, but the Lokstraps are much safer. All about safety.

I bought some of those Lokstraps for my 12 year old son's guitar. They are definitely solid and have never failed - and cost so little. I use the schaller strap locks on my Rickenbacker though as I like the convenience of being able to take the strap off and on quickly.
