The long wait is over!

Well, it took two years, but my Luthier finally delivered my 4001S bass last week. It has been a busy and eventful week for us here, but I wanted to give a sneak peek to the forum. This is my 1982 4001S that was my favorite bass and I missed playing it terribly, but now it's back home and ready to roll. When choosing the color, I did not try to get an exact match of Chris's bass or a 4001CS. I picked the shade of yellow that matched what I thought the bass should look like. I have it on good authority that it is, however, quite close to the original.

I'll post more details when I get an opportunity, right now things are moving at about 120 MPH - Quite the busy summer!

Thanks, Mark. She is a little sweetie! I'm not her daddy, she is the daughter of a good friend.

I've been working on a name for this bass and all I can come up with is 4001XS. I think that will work.

My Luthier fell ill with kidney stones halfway through this project but still worked very hard to complete it for my by a special date. His name is Dave Mannella, Mannella Guitars of Pittsburgh (Verona) PA. He is an excellent RIC setup man and he does amazing repairs. I will have more projects for him when he gets well. He has a CD full of pictures from the refin, when he gets them to me, I'll post more.

Off to start a very busy day! More to follow.....

Nice Raven shirt! I've eaten and drank there several times since the 1980s.

Quite right, Sean. I remember your posts about Southeast Virginia and Henry "the Bull" from WNOR FM. We eat at the Raven at least twice on every trip down there, it's my favorite restaurant.

Thanks everyone! I plugged her in for a bit this afternoon and love the tone. Deep and clear on the bridge, warm & mellow on the neck and just vintage all the way. Well worth the wait.

Woody, to answer one of your questions, the headstock is dyed walnut and was part of the refin. Here are some pics of the original bass, from the ebay ad three years ago. The headstock pic shows the true original color and how badly it had aged. My friend has a 1976 AZ that still looks good, but the clearcoat on my '82 had yellowed badly. I had no second thoughts about proceeding with the refin. She's now my dream bass, my 4001XS, or 4001XOVS, to be more precise! :) :D 8)
