It's Rickilicious!

It's funny how when you become more intune with your instrument you start to hear it in places you never noticed it before, even though you've heard something a million times before. I know you all know this already, but HIGHWAY STAR by Deep Purple is a great song and I hear a Rickenbacker bass in it with some great basslines...it sounds Rickilicous! I'm going to have to go back now and revist ALL the songs of my youth I suppose.

Especially '70s rock. Rick basses were used extensively then.

What's even more cool to me is how much music I listened to with prominent Ric bass in it, before I knew that such a bass existed. And that stuff was my favorite music!

Put me in that same category. I just started playing bass recently and started with a Rick from how much I enjoy Chris Squire's bass sound. But I also am finding out as I move forward that many of the bass parts I like were done with Ricks. I'm even finding the same with Rick guitars as well.

Me too. I got my first Rick bass sometime around 1978, It was kind of a fluke, really. I just went to see this bass someone had advertised in the paper. Once I played it, it was total love at first note. I was amazed after that how many of the bass parts of my favorite music were played on a Rick. I knew I liked them, but had no idea what the bass was until I had one myself. Then it was, wow, this thing sounds a lot like... (who ever), and I found they were using a Rick too!

We got home from vacation, opened the house windows, and I hear live music. In the park a block away Shout!
http://www.shouttribute.com/ was playing. Beatles tribute band. I hear what to me is a Rick bass. I was right, lefty 4003 MG; early 90's was my guess. The website says early 4001, but the tuners, pickups, inlays, and pickguard said 4003.

I am in the same boat as cassius987 and harrek, my fav bands growing up were The Beatles, Deep Purple,Rush, BTO, and for the most part they all used ric bass's, it wasnt till a couple years ago when i was trying to figure out how Geddy was getting his growl that I saw the connection and then my lust for RIC bass's took off...
