Rickenbacker 660/12 Aqua Marine Experimental Model

At some point we could do some creative merging of a number of topic areas. I find it fascinating, however, how two posts on the same topic often times end up very different. Once a thread takes on a life of its own it is sometimes better to let it run its course as in this case.

A very interesting choice for a finish. Eric was this finish a deliberate plan to create a new finish or a happy accident? The one of a kind designation suggests that we will not see another like it.

I am intrigued by the fact that while it did not have instant appeal for me, I did warm up to it after looking at the photos on a couple of occasions.

In my experience, a blue/green finish (which is how the ebay ad describes it) is very hard to photograph in artificial light. It tends to show as gray/olive. I'd take this baby outside for some better photos!

I particularly liked the "golf" motif chosen for the ebay ad. Hole in one!?

Also, has anyone had experience with a Rick 12-er through a pair of humbuckers? I am wondering if that would result in a darker sound than through hi-gains or toasters.

I wouldn't say accident, but definitely not what I was going for. Strange things happen when you aren't paying attention and grab a spray gun that you think has one color in it, and it has quite another.

I cannot begin to imagine how difficult the work must be in the spray-booth. Sometime when you get the chance I would love to see a series of posts on a day in the life of a spray-booth wizard.

I'll vote for a Aqua Marine COY. I think some of the 660 colors would look better with the white vintage TRC and pick gaurds like this one - especially the BBR COY. Maybe a formite will snag it and then do a posting so we can all hear how those HB-1's sound on this baby, yeah!

Totally. It uses the color to "soak" into the wild grain and figuring, bringing it to life. I think BBR did the same thing on 660 & 381 models

While the color may not be to everybody's liking, it's pretty hard to argue about that beautiful figured wood!
