His mother had a think accent and used to pronounce it as "Geddy".

Yes, Geddy Lee was named Gary Lee Weinrib. His Polish mother's accent made it sound like she was saying "Geddy", so his friends in high school started calling him Geddy and he decided to stick with the nickname...
