It is interesting, when you do a "Compare \ Basses" of the 4001C64 to the 4001C64S on the Ric website, there is apparently no difference. I'd forgotten what the differences were, so I was trying to check. I was able to re-figure it out when I clicked on each model description on the "Compare - Basses" page. The "S" is simply the 1970's version of McCartney's RM1999 (zero fret, reshaped body, etc.). Since both models can no longer be ordered, I guess that it isn't that big a deal. Musician's Friend apparently still has some on order and they are still listed with pending dates - which I don't think means much according John Hall's prior posts. They "appear" to have a Mapleglo 4001C64 in stock.

Very curious to see what the possible replacement will be. Maybe it will be announced at the 2010 NAMM in January. I'm still hoping for a re-issue of the original 4000. Upper left image on this webpage:

I think it is more likely to be a two-pickup 4001 with all of the old deluxe features, as some have posted. An active pickup option with switchable pickup wiring (such as the Jaguar bass) would make it interesting.
