OK, Francesco, this site says it is the 4001S:

I'd read somewhere else that "Something" was on the Hofner, but with the known intonation issues I sort of wonder. They say the same thing on this site:

Interesting site. Keep playing those McCartney bass lines. Would still love to see "Another Day" if you've done it.

The Rick sounds right to me. Nice job Francesco!

I prefer the Rick sound too, sounds more complete in context of the song.
Nice playing Faul.

They both sound right, but as with the last two posts, I have to say the Ric makes the songs sound more complete. Sustain, maybe?
What strings do you have on the Höfner, Francesco?

I've always assumed it was the Hofner; mainly because he had been using it more in '69, and because of his penchant for doing those "high noodly-type things" on his Hofner (he has more recently discussed this in interviews). But I was surprised at how similar the two basses sound in the above viddies. I listened to the Hofner one first, and was convinced that was the one. Then I listened to the Rick one, and became convinced that was the one.
So, my definitive answer is: I have no idea; but they both sound quite good. Good job, man!

thank you
the Hofner is strung with Hofner flatwound strings for violin bass....(manufactured by Pyramid)

I thought the Hofner had Pyramids on it. I saw the green silks, but figured I should ask first before assuming.
I also saw your video for "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", how did you get such a trebly sound from the Jazz?

It just sounds so trebly, man. Not like Entwistle's "Leeds", "Boris the Spider" or "Kilburn" tone, but just a grinding sound that makes it sound cool. The tone of Paul's Jazz on "Gently Weeps", "Glass Onion" and especially "Yer Blues" just sends chills down my spine.

Yep, I've always dug that tone. When we added "Gently Weeps" to the set I had to scramble around and find a lefty sunburst Fender Jazz, I use it on "Glass Onion", the rare times we do "Yer Blues", and the Abbey Road "medley" too.
And FWIW, I use a Ric 4001S for "Come Together".

I am on the right side, the original bass is on the left.....I suggest you to use decent headphones to enjoy it better
I'll upload the video tomorrow

What kind of pick? Fender medium? I bought some TI flats for the couple of my basses, and am curious to see how they sound. I'd always thought that McCartney did some string tricks on the Jazz to get that trebly/edgy sound, but maybe not.
