Hello!

I just checked out a "360/12 C63" for sale and it became clear that the owner did know for sure if it was a C63 or a v64 (I didn't either, obviously).

We looked at both on the web and could not visually tell the difference.

Can you fine folks tell me what the difference between the two are? Hopefully it's something visual.....

His had a serial # of 06 and then xxxx (I forget the next 4 digits).

By '06, it was certainly a C63. You could also unscrew the pickguard and see if the wood braces are in the body. If they are there, you've got a C63. Back to the serial number......you've got a C63.

Here's a discussion with internal links to several other discussions on the topic--should be able to assemble a pretty good picture of the differences. In general, there are differences in construction, radius, headstock, and electronics. But, IMO none significant enough to rule either one out if you're in the hunt.

A good rule of thumb: look at the burst around the tailpiece.

Treble horn on the V64 is pointier. This always seems obvious to me.
