CD3 Suggestion for Interested RRF Members

As most every one knows by now, I've had my prized Rick for four and a half months, now. So I'm feeling like I have my bona fides as an RRF member. Some folks are talking about an RRF CD3 already, and now I feel like I'm in position to submit a contribution, or two.

Here's where you can come in. I'd like to lay down my Rick 360/12, and the lead vocal. Then I'd like any one who is interested to contribute overdubs: bass, guitars, harmony vocals, and even if there's a Rick steel out there, on one of the cuts would be nice.

I'll include the lyric sheet/chord chart along with the CD.

I could really go after this but my only DAW is GarageBand, so that may be a no-go for you. I suppose I could always just take the outsourced file, drop the audio in (mp3 works for this), record my part, then delete the original audio and just submit to you a hi-fi mp3 of my part. Eh??

You should have various people to do it and see what turns out. :)

I would be up for contributing in some form if welcome, I use logic to record, which is compatible with Garageband, so I doubt using either would be a problem. They can both bounce mp3's with ease.

I don't know what's going to work out, or how. I'm still doing analog to digital conversion. I hadn't thought too deeply about software compatibility issues.

On the other hand...I could get this done over at the Academy. There's a pretty good recording studio with ProTools upstairs. That may be the way to go.

Hopefully I can get started on this pretty soon, like before Halloween. I'll do my best.

Talk of a RRF CD3 already? Cool. Haven't had time to record anything new, but do have a fun collaboration with another Forumite that I would love to submit to the next installation....

Hi,

I'm not sure how this works.. are covers OK? I have finished my first recording project with my new 360/12 (330/6 also makes an appearance). I know you can't post MP3s to the forum; it's supposed to be a link to a music sharing site. I joined one of those sites last night and read through some of the FAQs. It turns out that you need to get permission and pay royalties to the publisher to post a cover tune, even if you're not selling it. And, yeah, I know, it's one of those nudge-nudge, wink-wink, know-what-I-mean, mattress tag removal type of things, but the way this economy is going, I can't afford to be the model case that some anal lawyer decides to make. I then went to YouTube and they will take down a cover song (even if it's credited) if anyone complains. Too much hassle for me. I don't want to be sending links to friends and family only to have my tunes 'disappear'. So, again..... are covers valid for submission for the CD?

Thanks.

Tom

Hi Tom.
No, covers are discouraged on RRF produced CDs for the very reasons you cite. You could still participate however by contributing either original material, or supporting tracks for another forum member's submissions.
