Its been kind of boring here on the forum lately,,,so I thought I'd humiliate myself and toss out a soundbyte of my 4004L.

Keep in mind, its totally un-rehearsed, and pretty much a spur of the moment shot from the hip. My apologies to Mr. Chris Squire......

His particular model is ideal for some ideas I've been a-conjurin'.

4004Cii's are really a lot more common now than they were a year ago. I dunno about 4004L's but I bet it's the same.

Very cool, Scott. Where you put your camcorder captured some nice ambient sound of your space too which compliments the sonic qualities of your Laredo. Now you've just enhanced my RAS for a Laredo!

I have a little Fender BXR 25 combo amp sitting on my workbench in the garage, it was a nice day, I've been home from work recovering from shoulder surgery, was bored, and hit the record button and went for it.

I thought the recorded tone sounded about as real as it gets, so I dropped it here on the forum so folks wondering about these basses could hear one. ( not to many audio samples out there).

I have DR Highbeams on the 4004L guaged: .40 .60 .80 .100. The bass is wired V V T, and the neck pickup was rolled back just a whisker.

Scott no humiliation... I thought it was a pretty good impromptu display... 4004 - Rickenbackers best kept secret. I love the L series and the Cii is nothing to sneeze at either. And the fact that they come in at just over 7 pounds… man what sound! Thanks for the mini show!

thanks for posting that,scott. that's pretty amazing-it seems to sound a lot more like a 4001 than my cii,considering we have very similar strings. i really don't play much with a pick anymore,and i admire your technique and sound!

Yeah the tone is really quite nice... one of the better 4004 recordings I've heard, ironic that it's using a camcorder!

I've played with a pick for 30 years. All the sound examples I've been able to find showcasing the 4004 series seem to be using flatwound strings / played fingerstyle. I just thought I'd offer this up as a contrast.

The camera is a Canon Powershot S3IS.

They are a fine amp, I have the same amp by an earlier name (rad 25) It's the one I use in my yoo choob vids. I usually use the EQ flat... How did you have the eq settings (just so I can get more of a picture of what the 4004 sounds like....)

Yeah, my wife picked mine up at a local store. As much as I want to sneer ( gear snobbery), at this little thing, its one of those pieces of equipment I'd never consider getting rid of.
