I played Beatles RockBand this weekend

I have to say they did an amazing job with this. It was loads of fun, and amazingly accurate in many ways. The songs that had me playing the Rick 12 parts really did a good job of mimicking the way you play those parts for real. I was very impressed.
Who else has played it yet?

Played it, quickly got bored. Just not a whole lot of fun when I know what it's like to play the songs for real. YMMV.
I do get a kick out of the licensed instruments, and I'm looking forward to my roommate buying it because I'll be able to hear Beatles music all day long.

I voted "Dont care and won't play". I do it most evenings for "real".

I voted don't play--don't care. I don't own the electronic gear to play the game, no X Box, or Wii, and I don't plan on purchasing such.
Second, I'd rather play the music for real on any given evening of the week.

I have never played
Rockband in any version and can't see myself getting interested in it, even for the Beatles' stigma. I might go as far as to watch someone else play it if circumstance allowed. Further, I've never played any video games since
PAC-MAN and
Asteriods were introduced and I don't own a television. Sorry, just not my thing.

I thought the same like you guys.
However - I think it is a matter of perspective, don't look at it as a replacement to the real thing of playing Beatles songs - look at it as a way to hear many great Beatles songs in an interesting and interactive way.

I'll echo Kira. Why would I play a video game when I can play the songs on guitar?

I was vehemently opposed to the idea of Rock Band and Guitar Hero when my kids began playing it -that is until my childrens' interest in GOOD music was piqued by what they were hearing on the game.
It was a proud moment when my son professed his love for 'Stray Cat Strut' and 'Band on the Run'.
So if they want the Beatles version I'll call it a victory for good taste. They could be listening to any number of prostitots, rappers, or (maybe the worst) Highschool Musical.

it was good fun, a friend brought it over yesterday and we played it from start to finish. i played the bass part,... I've got to say I was surprised at how a run felt like a run. obviously it didn't feel REAL but perhaps a model or a representation of a run. good fun though.

When I was in High School, that was all I heard, except with my group of friends. My friends liked The Beatles.

If Rockband is another avenue for kids today to 'discover' the beatles, i'm all for it!
My daughters,(now in their 20's) have friends who can't believe they have Beatles albums in their collection. Reaction is along the lines of "i didn't know the beatles sang that!"
I am a self-confessed beatleNUT, so i'm looking forward to playing the game, and my 2 boys can't wait to play it. They love the video trailors.
I also prefer to play the music myself, but i remember the beatles. This gives this generation, and possibly the generation or 2 before them, the chance to discover the magic!
It's all good!

Wow! Some haters in our midst!
As has already been said here, I think it will introduce a lot of young folks to Beatles' music, that they wouldn't have gotten into otherwise. We could see a lot more interesting original music getting written over the next few years as a result.
A friend of mine works for Blockbuster so he rented the game (for free) and brought his system over. He's pretty good at the game. Being actual guitar players, my bandmate and I suck at it. So we pretty much watched this guy play most of the night and were thoroughly entertained. The videos are very well done and creative.

Jason, this is already happening and without the push from this game. I've noticed a tremendous number of young people who are totally into The Beatles -- the age range seems to be from @ 11 to the early 20s. One of my bandmates has an 11 year old son that has seen McCartney in concert twice and loves the Beatles as well as other types of music. I've met loads of kids who sport Beatles T-shirts, buy the CDs and that know the music well; I'm guessing the latter is from raiding their parents music collections. Also, if you check out the official MySpace page for the band, which is operated by Giles Martin, it's mostly young folks who are posting or commenting on the photos in the various albums. Some of the photo comments read like what you would have expected to see during the height of Beatlemania; "OMG! Paul is sooooo cute!" or "Does anyone else think that George is hot?!?".. LOL.
I think it's a very good sign for the future of music and a testament to just how great a band they really are/were. Keep in mind that next year will mark 40 years since they disbanded.... it's amazing. As for the game itself, well, it's not my thing but if others enjoy it then more power to them! And if it draws more folks into the music made by these guys, I'm all for it. But, there's one thing that I've learned about the Beatles over many years, it's that they are a very polarizing group -- you either love 'em or hate 'em. I don't think that will ever change, but seriously, how can anyone not like this band???

I don't think it's a bad thing. I'm just an old futz who doesn't play video games. If I had kids I'd probably buy it for them and watch the cartoons.
