This video rocks however, the bass player replaced the Ric pickguard and pups with P bass setup. He is quite good but what the hell is with the stripes on the back of the neck? ruined what looks like a nice 4001V63FG.

Always good to see this one - we had a thread on it a year or more ago.

It is a 70s 4001S (has the skunk stripe). I almost think it is a lawsuit bass with RIC TRC because the FG with that much yellow on the headstock and body burst looks more Japanese then RIC. We decided the neck stripes is actually masking tape for reference because of the speed of the playing.

Whenever I watch that video, I'm always left a bit cold by the bass playing. It always comes across to me like a guitar player on bass, rather than a "real" bass player.

Yeah, I totally agree Steve, but it looks like fun just for fun.

The pickup makes it sound more 'P' than Ric. Actually sounds close to the old Sheehan sound. Don't think I'd want to try it to my Ric though. :D

They should play classical music and leave the rock to players with soul!

He's probably got that tape on to mark the fret markets live. I have the same issues with the 4001S and the 4001CS live. Under stage lights and playing fast, it's hard to see the dot markers on the neck, and the side ones are very hard to see against the dark wood of the neck, as they don't stand out against the binding like the bound models have.

As for the bass, it may be a 4000. I couldn't see the neck join too well though.
