I'm loving my 330/6 FG, but something I've always wanted was a short-scale Rick. I can't afford a new 325C64, and now that we've got a fresh wave of Beatlemania (courtesy of Rock Band and the remastered CDs), I expect the prices for used ones will go up.

I'm starting to fear my only hope may be to build myself a replica, if I don't want to sell everything I already own to afford to buy a real one. I'm sure I could build a pretty decent Rick-like guitar, but it wouldn't really be a Rick.

Assuming I don't find an old 325 mouldering away in a relative's attic somewhere, what are the chances of finding a serviceable short-scale Rick for less than a king's ransom?

You can frequently find nice 320s from the early Eighties selling for $1200 - $1600. Keep checking the classifieds here and on eBay, CL, you know the drill. Those are your best value in short scale Rick excitement.

Don't worry----Beatles video games won't drive up the value of used Rickenbackers. Kids don't need to play a REAL guitar, now all they have to do is flip a toggle switch and press a couple huge buttons. Oh yeah, and there is a massive recession going on right now. Buy now!

Good advice above. Not sure what your threshold for pain is price-wise, but every once in a while a genuine "great deal" shows up--thanks in no small part to the economy I suspect. Within the past 4 months or so, one of our own members scored a c64 on the 'bay for a little over $1600. I was watching that particular auction, toyed with the idea of throwing a snipe at it in the $17s, but like you assumed it would go way high at the end--it didn't.

Patience, combined with having a little flexibility as to when to throw money at an opportunity seem to have as much if not more to do with great deals on the little Rickies than production numbers.

Steve, if you can, try to make it to a Confluence and 'test drive' a short-scale before you buy one, as it might take a little getting used to.

That sounds like a good idea. Any Washington-DC area get-togethers planned? Or any DC-area short-scale Rick owners just want to get together and jam sometime?
