Begs the question...How many Fender guitars make it "out the door" without Fender knowing about it? If they are not legitimately sold to a distributor, are they not stolen?
anyway....
slightly o/t - my friend met Keith Richards at a party once, and they had a brief discussion about how many guitars he had. Keith told him he had no idea. That in fact, dealers call him all the time with vintage guitars and such they know he likes, and he buys them sight unseen. Two things here...got to be a lot of "thievin" going on here.....as far as prices he pays, and if he actually gets the guitars. Another thing is, if i were a collector, I probably wouldn't pay top dollar for a Richards "owned" guitar as good chance he probably never played it. He might not have known he even owned it. You'd have to have pretty good photographic or video evidence he played it for me to be a believer.

A lot of money for a mildly reliced hot rod '52. Curious why it has 6 strings?

Keith only plays with 5 strings? How the heck does he manage to do that?
As we know, my dad's friend is married to Keef's niece, and she told me they've seen "Micawber" before. All she told me is that it's seen better days. Her husband also mentioned that Keith brings about 50 guitars on tour, and most of them are either originals from the 50s, or a reissue of a 50s guitar (Fender/Gibson custom shop models?), but you do see an occasional 60s (original or reissue) guitar pop up (double-bound '62/'63 Tele Custom, anyone?). He also uses Tweed Fender amps. The pedal board has never been discussed, but I'm sure all he has is a fuzz/overdrive/distortion pedal of some sort for "Satisfaction.
Since we're on a Keef discussion, I have a valued possesion: a photo signed by Keef saying simply: To Jake. Love, Mr. Keith Richards.

10 grand for a lookalike beater Tele. Will some people never understand intrinsic value vs. hype?
This does speak volumes for the Fender "Custom Shop" brand ("Custom Factory" doesn't make it, "License to Print Money Shop" is too close to the troof). If anyone else built a perfect Micawber replica, he'd be lucky to get 10% of the asking price on this instrument.

Now low E string, open G tuning (or so I've read).

Yeah, I honestly don't get that. I think Fender CS produces some really nice guitars, but the prices just seem to defy reason.
