Can anyone shed any light on why Pete's TRC is missing in this photo?

I wasn't sure if he didn't just take it off and leave it on this -

Maybe he was having a Vintage one made.

That's groovy, but pants.

Maybe the truss rods needed some last minute tweaks before the gig?

It eventually ended up back with the guitar here.

That's what I'd think - he didn't want to remove the TRC every time he adjusted the neck.

He also removed the TRC's on all of the Gibson Les Paul Deluxe models he ever came across.

Jake's correct - most of the Les Pauls that he actually played were sans TRC:

You are of course, correct. My apologies. I found pictures of two sunburst '73 Deluxes that were owned by Pete that had the TRC's on, but they had been repaired (broken headstock).

Maybe he doesn't want to advertise/endorse for instrument manufacturers without compensation?

I'm pretty sure it has to do with access to the torsion rod. He's had signature guitars marketed by Gibson, Fender AND Rickenbacker.
