Not a big fan of the Lips, but digging that and digging the drummer's Welsh top.

I'll have to check them out, Dane.
I think someone bought me that same t-shirt a few years ago.

I watched that last night. Not one of my favorite performances by them, but I love how they approach the stage. Always something interesting and different to watch.
But the trend of distorting vocals and keys has gotten to me a bit.

I love 'em because they do stuff like this:
Taps? Kashmir? Ooh, that is so right on the money.
And did I mention: they're from Oklahoma??!

i'm fifty years old, and grew up loving yes, seeing clearly the difference between them and any other bands i'd heard.
there aren't many "young" bands that i love, .... if any.

What was their "hit single" a few years back? I am drawing a blank on it and normally I can pull this stuff from the recesses of my brain...

you're probably thinking of "do you realize?"
from, arguably, their best album, "yoshimi battles the pink robots"

Understood. There's a lot of rubbish about. Fleet Foxes, The Horrors, and maybe Editors are my own personal exceptions to that rule though.
The Lips aren't that far behind you in age though - I'm sure Wayne's in his mid/late forties.
I don't consider them a young band myself as I'm in my mid thirties so to me they feel they've been around for donkey's years.

..from "Transmissions from the Satellite Heart". I absolutely love everything from that point on, with "The Soft Bulletin" being my favorite album of theirs. Never got into the real early stuff. If you're at all interested in the Lips and haven't seen it, you should definitely check out the documentary about them called "Fearless Freaks". It's a killer film.
