So we finally got this room of ours set up as a low tech studio, and I'm LOVING IT!

Today at around 6, we brought all of our gear into the house, set everything up, slapped 3 mics around the drums, 1 on the guitar, and ran the bass direct (though you can hear the bleed) and on this imperfect set up, we created a sound I'm pretty happy with!

We even recorded a demo for all of you!

Basic Track - Drums / Bass / Guitar recorded on 1 take, all live

Vocals Overdubbed in 1 take.

If we can make this kind of noise with little effort put into to the process, I thing we'll do well once we have everything tweaked properly! Enjoy the clip, and please, post you comments!

Soundclick compresses the sound quite a bit, but it's listenable!

Thanks for Checking it out!

Nice job, Nick. Love the raw feel of the live recording. Nice grit to the singing. And thanks for making sure to include the "blisters: line!

What guitars were used on this recording?

The guitar was actually a Gibson SG with a P-90 in the bridge position...

And yeah, I was pointing at the drummer after the take egging him on to scream it! hahah

Nick - good reason to be happy with the tune... it sounds good! I think the vocals get better as the tune rolls along.

If you want any criticism from me I feel like the bass was a bit too boomy in the mix, even for a live take... maybe if you tame it just a bit with some compression (4:1?) it will tighten up and make the track that much more solid. :) Because there is bleed-over you will still retain some of the boom, which may be a good thing post-compression--may even give the tone a certain depth if there's any delay in the bleed.

It's funny that you mention that, because the other day, I realized that I only used compression on the vocals, everything else was au-natural.

When I went back to see if I could adjust it, I had already deleted the project, so I guess I'll do without! haha
