I'm always hesitant to put my stuff up for the world to hear, but after my pal Josh Chandler has given me the thumbs up I sort of got the confidence to keep at it. You can hear my 4003 quite distinctly on every song. I'm also playing guitar as well. So I guess I'll run down the set up and how I do it.

83' 4003jg, D'Darrio XL strings. I plug the bass into the stereo jack and just use the bridge pickup. It goes directly into an M Audio USB interface, where its compressed and EQed.
'97 Fender Cyclone, Fender 9's (generation one) pretty much run the same was as the bass only going through whatever acoustic setting, or British rock setting I create.
Vocals are recorded the worst possible way ever, because my studio mic is 1200 miles away from me. so its a PC mic. (Sucks to be me)
Because I'm completely broke most of the time recording is done with Ableton Live Lite 7. It lets me play with 8 tracks and I do the best I can.

Great stuff, Miles. Thanks for taking the plunge into the world of internet exposure and sharing these tunes. So far I've listened to 'Hello Violet' and 'Cause And Effects.' Really well written tunes, I'm enjoying them quite a bit. Production-wise, I think the lo-fi result works well, even given your disclaimer. The tunes REALLY need the drums, though. As long as you're working as a one-man band, I'm sure you could get some kind of drum machine or rhythm plug-in for cheap.

Thank you very much Mr. Walker. There actually is a drummer involved in this project and he'll be laying the drums down towards the end of the year actually. So its a very exciting time for me musically
The idea for the project was tossed around between he and I but we could never get a guitarist to commit to it, so that, at the time, was a serious problem. Then a few months later I had to move out of state. Before I had left I had done some session work and I had some recording software and wanted to do some more session work, only to find out that my software was incompatible with my operating system. I took a trip to sam ash and scored my M Audio interface and I've been a busy little bugger ever since. Now as the stars are finally aligning themselves I'm able to come back home and dedicate more time to it.

"linney t" was a really nice melodic song,creative bass part too. I was looking at your "friends" list,xtc,snowglobe,supergrass,ben folds.......and thought,oh yeah,this is gonna be good...... Well that wraps that up.

Its now nearing close to February and things have spiraled out of control for this music project. A terrible rash of bad luck in both the band front, which actually became a band, and in my personal life. The rhythm guitarist and the drummer (both fellow co-workers) busied their schedules so that time doesn't allow them to carry on with the group. The lead guitarist has come into his busy free-lance season and now only has time for his own project. So, once again I'm on my own. So that's the end of that. Thanks for tuning in and I'll post again when something changes.

Nolan, that sucks! I'm really sorry. I hope things turn around for you soon. You're a really talented musician and songwriter; you deserve it. Unfortunately talent rarely spares you the pain of putting a band together even if it kind of seems like it should.

Finding a good band to work with is hard in a number of ways. I'm really lucky that I just got things rolling with a couple of guys that are uniquely talented in ways different from my own talents, who I can joke around with, and who seem to be decent people. But I had no idea this was even going to happen--the guitarist worked his butt off and put the whole thing together after months of looking for a drummer while I sat around idly (not really, working on a Ph.D. is tough). I guess my point is that the whole band process is extremely serendipitous when it works and most of the rest of the time it can be quite a pain, but hang in there, because that serendipity will eventually come your way if you've got the right stuff--and you certainly do.

If you're ever near the Rockies, let's get together and jam!
