Case for a 4003

I am thinking about buying a 2000 4003 that lacks a case. So far on the internet I have been able to find only the vintage silver cases for sale. I see the Ric 330 molded case for guitars sold separately, but no 4003 molded case. Has anyone seen the molded bass case for sale or do I need to shell out for the vintage silver case if I want a Ric case?

If nothing else, you can have any dealer order one, list price for the molded one is $269, the vintage is $299, so only $30 difference. I bought a new vintage bass case for right around $200, so you can extrapolate what a molded one should probably cost...

Mark, someone here might have one they'd part with so you could ask in the Rickenbacker Needed forum, or you could contact Chris at POTR or Mike at TRP/Music Connection to see about new.

Oddly enough, the best price I've found on new plastic molded cases is more than the Musician's Friend price on the silver vintage cases.

I like the reissue silver cases better, anyway.

+1 - I had Chris at POTR order me a molded case for transporting whatever one I'm using to gigs and rehearsals. I'm more comfortable with my Ricks snug in the molded case and I'd rather not ding up my vintage cases (the '78 case is already battle worn).

Yes, Chris at POTR did indeed quote me a price on one. It turns out, though, that I stumbled upon a 2004 4003 that came with its case (and looks unused) so I passed on the 2000 4003, for which I would have had to buy a case.

4000 Series Rics fit in 70's Fender "amp logo" cases.

+1. I used my '62-3 P bass case for my "68 4000. It fit very well.

Thanks, Scott. I used the bass last night at practice for the first time and was very pleased. Tonight I adjusted the truss rods, the bridge height, raised and lowered the appropriate sides of the pickups, and adjusted the saddles, and now she's just perfect. What a gem!
