We live fairly near a busy rail line so seeing trains isn't exactly a rare occurrence. But the other day, we heard one was coming by that made me get a camera out to go take some pictures. You don't see one of these running down the tracks every day, at least not any more...
OH, it does this old mans heart good to see an old Steam Engine running.....
In a FEW WEEKS, the old Lionel Pre War set comes out for the Christmas Season....NOW that I'm properly motivated....that must have been AWESOME CJ....

Yeah, it was very awesome. The worst part, and I realized this as I was snapping pictures, was that I was missing the whole thing by taking pictures! I snapped a few while just looking over the camera (they suck), it was just so cool to hear the thing running! Even the whistle! Wow, what a sound! There was a crossing about 100 yards before the signal light seen in the pictures and they blew the whistle for that! Wow, what a sound! Oh, I said that again, huh? OK fine WOW, WHAT A SOUND!!! It's so much cooler than what usually passes by...

Never seen anything like that run by anywhere I've lived.
When the freight trains come through at night near where I live, the guys running the trains don't blow the horns enough to alert the people in the streets that a train is coming, they blow their horns enough to alert everyone sleeping in bed that they are coming!!

One of my pastimes as a young boy was to go train spotting with my pals in Southampton England. We only ever recorded the numbers of British Railway steam locomotives in our books. The newer diesel engined trains did not interest us at all.
Anyway I digress. That is an amazing series of pics CJ. Thanks for posting them.

That's an N Gauge I believe,too small for my collection...I'm an "O" Gauge guy (think Adam's Family Size). This year, the set will be a bigger layout than normal, being the economy has been so wonderful, less presents so more train track to be laid!

Yeah, it was extremely cool! The train is based in Portland Oregon and had traveled out to Michigan for a train festival. We didn't hear about the trip out until a couple of days after it had passed through so, we wanted to be sure to catch it on it's way back home.
If we had the money we would have taken a ride on it from Havre, MT to Whitefish, MT through Glacier National Park! But the tickets were about $500 each. That would have been the ultimate in cool!
They are planning more trips in the future, so you may get a chance to see it for yourself. Here's the official web site:
