I just uploaded an image to test how this works (I have a lot more). And I notice it is obviously way too big as displaying it takes ages with no result at all. (They where shot with a Canon 5D mark II)

What is the prefered size for pictures?

The Register will take 1280 X 1280 comfortably and the upload is fairly fast.

However, it can accept 3072 X 2304 and even larger although the upload time will, naturally, be somewhat longer.

Uploading went pretty fast. After that I got a "view" button in the image editor. I hit it and then the waiting started. The picture is a jpeg with 3744 x 5616 resolution and a filesize of 4.1 MB. I'm OK with downsizing. Just curious what limit I hit where....

It is this picture by the way, which in itself does display properly in my browser.

I use Photoshop Elements (The full PS is more than I need at the moment) to adjust and resize my images. For normal forum postings I use the Save To Web feature after resizing.

FWIW, for taking photos I use a Nikon D70S with a setting on medium (2240 x 1488) that produces a file size per photo of about 700 KB. I then use the Nikon editing software for cropping, etc. and reduce the image size to 1024 x 768 and file size to about 100KB for uploading pics to the Register. The uploads go pretty fast and produce photos of decent clarity and size when viewed on or downloaded from the Register.

I would have send you the 5D immidiately if it was mine. But it is not.

And I know how to resize, I do this a lot for several forums. I just tried not resizing this once so that everyone should be able to see the full image with all details. This makes paging through several images less easy I guess. So I will resize the pictures now.

I own a 5D mkII but I think that 21 Mega pixels is an overkill for putting some guitar images on the register...
The maximum allowed image size is 4000x4000 pixels, just shrink to have the long end at 4000 pixels and you are good to go.

A small correction, maximum size is 5000x5000.
