Pondering $250 for next summer's U2 show when I read this article ... this cannot be an inexpensive tour to put on with this kind of support ...

U2's immense fan base and immense sound must be equalled by their immense egos.
I can't believe any post-pubescent male, anywhere, would insist upon being called "The Edge".
Yeah, I do love their music. I just have to not think about them too much while I'm listening to it.

Went to the Giants Stadium show. Saw Muse, and walked out on U2. Paid $15 for tickets, which turned out to be too much as others were giving tickets away.
The band is the ultimate in hypocrisy .They claim to be green, and sympathetic to economic distress, yet they insist on this mega million set up, which because of the transportation causes immense pollution. The cost of which is passed on the the consumer. Bono was even quoted as saying they should bring the ticket prices down. Did he? Nope
There's a clip on youtube...gotta find it...Bono quiets the crown, then starts a slow rhythmic clapping. He says that every time he claps his hands, a child in Africa dies. Then you hear some one in the audience yell out "So stop clapping! "

Without wanting to become political or flaming anyone, but isn't walking out just because you don't agree with U2's political views really just as hypocritical as Bono's political views in comparison to their tour costs?
I don't agree with Bono's views at all, but I go to their shows to enjoy their music. My favourite band's R.E.M. and I can't say I agree with much of their views either, tbh. I enjoy their music - that's what they're good at. Because they're good at one thing doesn't mean they're good at everything - just my two eurocents.
I think I paid something like 45 EUR for my ticket to see them this summer. I don't think that was expensive at all. Go try and see Sir Paul, now HE is a rip-off!

Missing U2 had nothing to do with their politics. We weren't interested in seeing the band. My son is a HUGE Muse fan, and this was our only way to see that group until they tour next Spring.

Gotta say it........U2 would be a FAR better band without Bono (or at least his pompous attitude/ego).
Everyone knows that "The Edge" (silly name and all) is the true talent in that band...

Yeah, I've enjoyed much of their work, but at $250 a pop you sure won't see me there. I actually can't think of anyone I would pay that much to see, unless they could somehow bring John Lennon back to life for real.

I've been a fan of U2 since Boy, although I really didn't care for anything they did from about 1985 until 2000 aside from Achtung Baby so I can sympathize with some of the comments being made. I think its important to separate the personalities from the music in all cases, as I don't think I would personally care to hang out with any musician whose music I enjoy. The more I have come to know about the musicians I like, the more I wish I hadn't bothered because a large number of them are either complete idiots or living lifestyles I disagree with.
As for U2, I agree that Bono can be a major idiot but the music wouldn't exist without him. As for The Edge "insisting" that people call him by that name, I'd be surprised if that was the case. The Edge is a nickname that he was given by his friends because of how he looked, and that was long before the band existed - I think he was around 14 years old. Apparently a lot of his friends had nicknames that stuck, including Bono. I think it makes life a bit more interesting to have nicknames for people, or to choose Rickenbacker-related screen names for ourselves.
As for ticket prices, for the show here they were very reasonable. $250 was for the very best seating, $99 was for great seats and mine only cost $55. Compared to many other artists that won't deliver the sweeping epic rock show that U2 will, it seems like a very good deal indeed. I hope I get to see an opening act as good as Muse when they come here!

I'm a big fan of U2's music, but was bitterly disappointed when I saw them live, back in the mid-80s. I'm convinced that the hype and ever-expanding techno-foolery surrounding their tours is cover for the fact that they are a mediocre live band.

There is no one that I would spend that kind of money on a ticket to see.

I start rolling my eyes at a tenth of that price!

Call me old and in the way, but I saw the Stones at Winterland right after "Exile" came out, and paid seven dollars. And that was double the normal price of admission to see some of the greatest bands in the world at their peak, three in an evening. Nothing against U2, but there are just some aspects of life these days that I can't get my mind around.
Although In fairness, I think the scalpers were getting $250 for that show.
