Flat fret tops on a 660/6...

Hello All,

I've just brought my first Rickenbacker - a 2007 660/6 Blue Burst...which I think is the most beautiful guitar I've ever got my hands on!(...I've allways like the cresting wave body shape).

Anyway...

Having been using more modern guitars I'm now getting used to the smaller vintage type frets used on the 660 but I have a question....

Are the frets supposed to have "flat" tops (...do your Rickenbackers have rounded flat or rounded fret tops)?

Excuse my ignorance, but I'm a Rickenbacker novice & so am not sure if the guitar would have come from the factory like that, or if the frets have been levelled/sanded).

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

I have just checked on my newest 330 (made February 2008) and yes they are flat topped, about 1/3 of the fret width in the centre is flat and not crowned and rounded as you would come to expect with most other makes.
Hope this helps.

Cheers
G

Welcome to the fold, Fugazi. Let's see a photo of your blueburst baby. :)

Once you get used to running fast on the Ric, other 'hot dog' frets will begin to feel like speedbumps.

Welcome, Collin!

IIRC all of my Rickenbackers have 'flat-top' frets, but I'll take a look when I get home tonight to confirm that.
