Here is recently discovered footage of early Yes with Peter Banks Playing his RM 1987 I Think ( 330 MG) and Squire's RM1999 which is fireglo so this maybe another rick he owned way back in 1968 when this album was released.

Pat, when I clicked on the link All Good People is the default video and it is Steve with no Chris. Which song?

I just saw Survival and that may be the one. That is the FG RM I believe.

I bought the "Lost Broadcasts" DVD last month and it's excellent. The quality is great and Chris is playing like an absolute demon!! He's known for his aggresive technique but it's even more so on the live tracks on the DVD. Highly recommended, treat yourselves to a copy!

thanks for the heads-up/review,steve! i was hedging about whether i would order the dvd,based on the lip-synch video that i had seen.....sounds like i need to whip out the credit card......

It's a great DVD, you won't be disappointed. Interesting to see Chris using just the horseshoe towards the end on the different live takes, I don't think I've ever seen him do that before (but someone correct me if I'm wrong).

he may or may not have had the bass wired stereo at this point. but if it was wired stereo, doesn't mean he can't select a certain pickup for a voicing !

All true! but I think Stephen was just making a comment that Chris was using the Horse by itself. These days it is either both or the toaster only.
I suspect Chris was still working out what he wanted to hear from the bass....

Yep, rare to see him using the Horseshoe by itself is what I was trying to say, which makes this footage/dvd pretty unique. I'm sure Ron's right, he'll have selected that pickup deliberately for the voicing (he couldn't have mistakenly done it, it's such a different sound) but it's not something you hear from Chris every day.

If I might derail the thread slightly, does anyone know of any songs (or sections of song) where Chris used only the Horseshoe? As a Yes fan I probably should have picked up on this myself but I can't bring any to mind.

hard subject to figure out. we get reports from people who worked on the bass saying that the horseshoe was completely disconnected from the circuit ??? i cannot believe this as he uses his bass in stereo. having said that...when it was supposedly disconnected would be for the person who did it and when to come forward. i think this is lost to history. now, if you listen to "the ritual" on yesshows, the bass solo spot sounds too agressive and sharp to be the neck pickup...also some work on relayer has the same edge without the trademark hollowness the neck pickup creates. i'm speculating all this, of course. only squire could tell you, but then that was a long time ago and memories alter a bit from fact to fiction by happenstance.

myself, i like digging in and crunching with the rear pickup, then going neck to do subtle or bass pedal type tones. never do i use both pickups together as i'm not in stereo, and with the cap bypassed, it produces the nasal tones similar to a jazz bass a la john paul jones/zepplin or the guns n' roses bass tone that i'm not into. great for disco, though !!!!!! lol.

This twit demonstrates the tones from the RM basses, it could be worked out from here...

that man is a foreigner !!!!!!!!!!! lol. thanx wee for the demo. my DK neck p/u sounds just like yours only a '73. picture was a little fuzzy, but the main thing was the audio tones. love that hollow sound from the neck.

On the subject of CS using his RM in stereo - I've heard this claim before, and always thought it odd since the RMs were originally mono with the one jack. When did he do the modification?
