Well it ain't Chet Atkins, that's fer sure!
I'm aware that there are a bunch of guitar players who do this stuff - I'll guess at the only one I vaguely know, which is Richie Blackmore.

I suspect that a fair number of hints will be required before this artist is identified.

Thought this mght be onscure, but I just love this particular rendition of the piece. Here are some hints to get started....
Hint #1: The artist debuted on vinyl with a band in '69.
Hint #2: The '69 album was a top-10 hit in the UK and went gold in the US.
Hint #3: Given the recording is live, the piece displays jaw-dropping speed that many would not associate with the artist.

OK, apologies for the obscurity

...more hints:
Hint #4: The artist is from the UK
Hint #5: Has worked with Peter Buck, Joe Satriani and David Sylvian, amongst others...
Hint #6: "Music so wishes to be heard that it sometimes calls on unlikely characters to give it voice."

I am late listening to this selection and it can only be Robert Fripp given all of those clues.

We have a winner!!!!!!!!
Well done Brian!!
Fripp is the band leader - this is a number by the Robert Fripp String Quintet, arrangement by Trey Gunn.

Thanks Evan.
Peter, I'll have something to you a little bit later.
