i was thinking today i dont know if anyone has dreamed this up before but there is over 4'600 members on here and if almost all of them would give $1 maybe one of the mod's or peter could pick up a new rick guitar or bass and pick a name out of a box that would get it and the rest of the money could go to funding this wonderfull site just thinking here

That's a pretty good idea!
BUT....that would only work if every member participated, and there are plenty of inactive members or people who just dropped by once etc.

It is a great and interesting idea. But we are at a low point in actual number of members participating right now. It looks to me we have only about 30-40 members doing all the posting lately.

John is partially correct. There are not nearly as many active members as there are members on the RRF.
In any event the topic of funding has been brought up before and it was determined that another funding vehicle is not necessary. I am sure Peter will join in at some point in the morning and confirm monies received from the sale of products produced and sold through Cafe Press are used to offset our operating costs. He will no doubt appreciate the sentiment Jerry.

Jerry: This is an interesting idea but at $2 a head a Rickenbacker guitar lottery would be a nightmare to administer. We still have a number of CD2s selling for $12 if there are posters here that wish to contribute to costs. We are always interested in new ideas to go with our break even accounting philosophy. I thank you for this additional idea, which I confess could generate some excitement and I thank you for thinking of us. I love the idea of a forum member winning something like this but as the admin it is not something that I could accept. As we look toward the RRF CD3 of original recordings I would ask that posters consider purchasing one as a way to balance the book on server costs. No one is paid to consult for the RRF and it continues to be a labour of love in that regard. I can well appreciate that there are no extra dollars hanging around during this difficult economy. For now the RickResource products such as the CD and Cafe Press are our bread and butter and I would ask that members consider these routes to assist.

Thinking out loud now, I guess I agree. Shame but, you'd have issues like people just signing up so they could be a part of the raffle(that's what it is), and the heart of what we have here is folks here for the love of the instrument. Also, running a game of chance on the internet, and internationally, not sure how that works.
Darn, and I had my fingers around a new two piece neck flamed out 4003 MG

Mark: The great thing about your suggestion was the heart that you put into it. I am very grateful for the sentiment and I thank you for putting forth the idea.

It is a great idea, and I don't see why $5 or even $10 a chance couldn't be realized. I'd buy a chance.

I too like the idea but there could be some legal issues since this is not a charity. Each state and country has different gaming laws plus here in the states the IRS would get a cut from the winner which means the admin would have to file a report (1099 if I recall correctly).

Please, I cannot take any more reports.

That explains why I never got my first check!
But seriously, the rewards are great and moderating is a pleasure. I need to place my order for the RRF Cd's and get busy with a contribution of my own for the next one.

I'd kick in for that, and if I won, I'd even donate the guitar back to the RRF for a
second raffle if the guitar wasn't double bound. Now if it was a bass, then I'd hang on to it, since I'm currently Rick bass-less.

Wow Paul--you really ARE picky about your guitars!
