9000 Instruments In The Register
We have now at the 9000 instrument mark on the RickResource Forum Register with over 2000 of these instruments with detailed photos. There are approximately 10,000 photos available at the present timewhich provides valuable information regarding our much loved Rickenbackers.
I cannot thank members and visitors to this Forum enough who continue to provide and collect information that has led to this database. We have merely scratched the surface, but through your efforts we have a much deeper understanding of Rickenbackers over the years than we had before we began this project.

Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Re: 9000 Instruments In The Register
I wonder what percentage this is of all the Ricks ever made?
It would be cool if JH could give us a number for Ricks made 1954 - present.

Re: 9000 Instruments In The Register
I have a sneaking suspicion that that number will never be known. There is a body of information JH chooses to keep to himself. There is also a vast body of information that RIC never kept records of. This may qualify as falling under either or both headings.

Jim: I believe you are right. RIC is not obliged to let any of us know what the total number is. This information is the torment of researchers who would like to know how many and what type of models were produced since the early years. At the same time this closely guarded information keeps things a mystery and continues to intrigue.
We can, however, set overall estimates within which we might discuss the context of the Register that we have developed over the past decade of collecting information thanks to the hard work and kindness of those who have visited this site.
If one makes the bold assumption that Rickenbacker has a production of 30 a day or 150 per week this would mean about 7000 per year for the past 50 years or so this would be 350,000 instruments. The Register is reporting perhaps 3 percent of this number and therefore there is a tremendous amount of information that we have missed. Our Register continues to grow with 3000 new instruments added in the past year.
In collecting data and trying to forecast events let us not forget the wise words of Yogi Berra - "Prediction is difficult especially if it is in the future."
At the end of the day if we are able to reveal the different types of instruments and changes to them over the history of the company while spreading the word regarding their quality and importance in popular music then I will be satisfied. Meeting all the wonderful people that I have along the way is icing on the cake.
Long live RIC. Without them I would have to get a life.
